Living Heritage Trust, a not for profit NGO -- through a for profit franchisee, Heritage Reserves (Private) Limited is establishing a Guru Gama or Elders Village, in conjunction with a Heritage Reserve destination at Koslanda.
The Guru Gama is for the purpose of passing on traditional knowledge, values and lifestyles to village young people, who will subsequently be employed at Koslanda, at other like-minded eco-tourism ventures, or in their home villages.
The goal is to conserve traditional indigenous and village lifestyles. The practical objective is to cut through the dichotomy between economic development and traditional lifestyles by conserving and promoting traditional values found in Sri Lankan villages as a source of economic development. The Guru Gama will become the basis for elaborating programs of benefit to villages and to other eco-tourism ventures.
