Gurugama: Aims

To teach the tradition[s] and explore the interconnectivity of myths, legends, belief systems and life styles of ancient Sri Lanka to interested participants.
To train the participants to live with nature and to give them an understanding of the value of nature and healthy living.
To promote physical, mental and spiritual development by becoming close to nature.
To create an understanding of the value of traditional arts and crafts and indigenous methods of healing.
To foster the study of the history of traditional arts and crafts.
To make the participant understand traditional culture and thereby find and investigate new avenues of employment.
To encourage practical application of the theory taught, by encouraging practice and participation in the prescribed areas of study.
To build racial harmony and international understanding by creating an educational, working, sharing and living environment that encourages learning for foreign and local participants alike.
To create a village based rural university that teaches traditional culture and its practical application in day-to-day living.
To provide training for young local village students to further their skills and preserve their heritage, while enhancing their potential for employment by our and other ecotourism ventures.
