BRI respects spirit of United Nations Charter, expert says
NEW YORK, Aug.22 (Xinhua) – There is respect for the spirit of the United Nations (UN) Charter in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), said a longtime member of the ‘Schiller Institute, a political organization based in Germany. and economic think tank.
The Charter of the United Nations affirms the equal rights of all nations, whether large or small, said Richard A. Black, representative of the Schiller Institute at the United Nations.
The BIS is an example of how a great nation like China can cooperate with “nations in Southeast Asia, South America, Africa, and treat them as equal partners, because the process is a win-win, ”Black told Xinhua in an interview Friday.
Black also sees the BIS as the great student of nations out of poverty in the 21st century, while Article 55 of the United Nations Charter emphasizes that the “conditions of stability and well-being” among nations require ” higher living standards, full employment, and the conditions for economic and social progress and development.
China’s complete victory over absolute poverty is an astonishing achievement for mankind and “it is an achievement that I think is not appreciated enough by the United Nations,” Black said.
Black noted that the Maritime Silk Road, one of the two branches of the BRI, is extremely important for world peace.
In the past few weeks of massive turmoil and transition in Afghanistan, fertilizers have entered Pakistan’s Gwadar port along the China-Pakistan economic corridor and safely reached Afghan farmers, Black said.
“When we look at the Sea Silk Road, it’s a way to connect the world land bridge across all continents, a key part, and it works quite well,” Black said.
China’s export rebound after the COVID-19 pandemic is benefiting from China’s foresight by adopting the long-term approach embodied by the BIS, according to Black.
China’s ability to bounce back so quickly from the horrific pandemic, Black said, “was not only its very wise and strict public health measures universally applied to the population, but (also) the basis of the BRI is very, very wise, ”Black said.
China’s merchandise trade with countries and regions along the Belt and Road jumped 37.9 percent in the first half of 2021 year-on-year to $ 824.55 billion, according to data released by China’s National Development and Reform Commission.
China has understood that the key to continued prosperity is advanced energy-intensive infrastructure, which transforms the entire economic process, added Black.
