India, Sri Lanka and Maldives organize maritime exercises

The 15th edition of the trilateral engagement called “Dosti” is conducted every two years, and 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the introduction of these maritime exercises.

However, it started primarily as a bilateral engagement, involving only the Indian and Maldivian Coast Guard. Sri Lanka joined in 2012 to make it a trilateral exercise.

“The two-day exercise under the auspices of (CSC) is a pioneering effort to collaborate in efforts towards the pillar of maritime security,” the Indian high commission in Colombo said in a statement.

CSC’s Targeted Operations aim to streamline standard operating procedures (SOPs) and improve interoperability between the three navies.

The Indian Navy was represented by the INS Subhadra offshore patrol vessel and the P8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft, while the SLNS Samudura and the MNDF Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft are participating respectively from the Sri Lanka Navy. and the national defense forces of the Maldives, according to the statement.

The two-day operation had a coordinated maritime surveillance platform in the respective exclusive economic zones for counter narcotics, search and rescue at sea, aerial monitoring and establishing effective communication. .
