Large 5.2 earthquake strikes near Benkulu, Bengkulu, Indonesia
Earthquake 5.2 June 20 04:12 (GMT +7)
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the 5.3 magnitude earthquake. A third agency, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), reported the same 5.3 magnitude earthquake.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused significant damage, but was likely felt by many as a slight vibration in the epicenter area.
Weak tremors could have been felt in Benkulu (pop. 309,700) located 109 km from the epicenter, and Pagar Alam (pop. 70,400) at 114 km.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant earthquake news becomes available. If you are in the region, please let us know about your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile application. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone in the world who is interested in learning more about this earthquake.
