Sri Lanka Ambassador to China Dr Palitha Kohona calls for greater cooperation between China and SCO members at Smart China Expo 2021 in Chongqing – Adaderana Biz

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to China Dr Palitha Kohona attended the China-SCO Digital Economy Industry Forum held during the Smart China Expo 2021 August 23-25 ​​in Chongqing. The forum was organized by the Chongqing Municipal Government in collaboration with the SCO Secretariat, providing a platform for innovation cooperation among SCO countries.

The high-tech exhibition was held in the large exhibition center adjoining the forum and showcased futuristic cutting-edge technologies and trends in fields related to developments in the digital economy, big data and smart technologies. Sub-forums were organized under the themes of digital economy, e-commerce, logistics and smart tourism.

Ambassador Dr. Kohona delivering his remarks at the Sub-Forum on Promoting Smart Logistics and Digitization of Logistics Corridors said that transforming Sri Lanka into a technology-based society is one of the main goals of national government policy. Further, he said Sri Lanka sees itself as the southern hub of the Maritime Silk Road and Belt and Road Initiative, well positioned to connect the region digitally and spread the benefits of digitization. .

Chongqing Municipal People’s Government Vice-Mayor Zheng Xiangdong, welcoming the forum, said Chongqing was building a “smart city” and had accelerated the opening of a new era of “smart life”. By exploring the value of big data for business, government and civil purposes, Chongqing is trying to accelerate the development of public service facilities such as smart transportation, smart medical care, smart education and smart tourism, in the aim to continually meet needs. of the population for a high quality life, he added.

Sri Lanka also had its pavilion in the SCO countries exhibition area. Due to the pandemic, many Sri Lankan companies could not be physically present at the show. However, some Sri Lankan products were showcased at the Sri Lankan pavilion and attracted considerable attention.

Ambassador Dr. Kohona highlighted Sri Lanka’s trade and investment opportunities and Sri Lanka’s enormous tourism potential in an interview with Chongqing Television and Chongqing International Media.

Ambassador Kohona met with senior officials of the Chongqing Cricket Association who had asked Sri Lanka for help in boosting cricket. China plans to field a cricket team at the next Asian Games. Ambassador Dr. Kohona assured the Chongqing Cricket Association that Sri Lanka is ready to help in any way possible to help Chongqing improve his game.
