Will pay rupees 50,000 to farmers who regularly repay loans under Mahatma Jyotiba Phule’s loan waiver program, Ajit Pawar says
As part of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Debt Waiver Scheme, the Mahavikas Aghadi government is committed to providing financial incentives of 50,000 rupees each to farmers who regularly repay their loans, said Deputy Prime Minister Ajit Pawar, who heads the planning and finance department holds, in the national assembly during question time.
Pawar intervened in response to a question from Shiv Sena’s legislature Prakash Abitkar.
Pawar admitted that the delivery of this aid had been delayed due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic. âThe lockdown caused by the coronavirus has reduced government revenues by 1.5 million rupees. However, the farmers, who regularly repay their loans, will receive support once the financial situation has returned to normal, âhe said.
He also said that it was the only state that paid zero percent interest on crop loans of up to Rs 3 lakh to farmers who repay their loans on time.
After Maha Vikas Aghadi came to power, the government announced a loan waiver program that provided full loan waiver to farmers with debts of up to Rs 2 lakh and aid of Rs 50,000 to farmers who regularly repay debts.
Pawar said the government had disbursed Rs 20.290 billion to 31.81 lakh farmers under the loan waiver program.
